What is now known as the Riviera Maya starts some 10 miles south of Cancun's airport and continues south to the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto in the Sian Ka'an Bio-Reserve.

The natural habitats, wildlife - on the ground ... in the trees ... and in the water - in Tres Rios and other Eco-parks such as Xcaret and Xel-ha will interest couples, families and jaded travelers.

Built along the coast, Tulum is one of the most impressive Mayan sites. Inland, the Mayan ruins at Coba stand out as they contain one of the Mayan's tallest structures.

The charm of Playa del Carmen with its many restaurants, shops and beach palapa lounges stands out as a relaxing and interesting spot. Golf courses dot the Riviera Maya.

All-inclusive mega-resorts, small hotels of all categories and a wide variety of villas, condos and boutique hotels offer accommodations to travelers of all budgets.
