Located in the southern boundary of a plateau that extends north to the state of Texas, Ciudad Victoria is an important trade distribution center due to its equi-distance from the oil-rich port of Tampico, the financial center of Monterrey and the border crossing at Matamoros. It is also the capital of the state of Tamaulipas.
Named in the early 19th century after Guadalupe Victoria - a central figure in Mexico's Independence movement and the first president of the emerging nation. Ciudad Victoria's importance also includes bass fishing at Vicente Guerrero Dam and other big and small game hunting activities. Unmined gold and silver treasures abound in the Sierra Madre northeast, east and south of Ciudad Victoria. |
