Suburb in the northwest sector of Guadalajara. Famous for the Virgin of Zapopan or "La Zapopanita" - a ten and a half inch statue of a virgin whose image impressed the local indians so much they surrendered quickly to Spanish conquistadores.
It is said the Virgin's curative powers ceased an epidemic that flourished in the area in the eighteenth century. |
