Emerging city in northeastern Mexico west of Matamoros. It
belonged to Matamoros' Municipio until March 1953 when the territory was separated and
formed into an independent Municipio with the same name as the city.
The area around what is now Valle Hermoso has been an important agricultural area. The principal crop in the 1940s and 1950s was cotton. When synthetic fibers started replacing the demand for cotton, sorghum and corn became the principal cash crops. White-wing dove hunting is a popular sport in the surrounding territory. |
