Nestled in the lowlands of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas, Tuxtla Gutierrez is the area's economic focal point as well as being the capital of the state of Chiapas. Cash crops in the surrounding area include coffee, bananas and other tropical farming.
Tuxtla Gutierrez took over as the capital from San Cristobal de las Casas in the late nineteenth century. |
