Nestled in the Chiapas highlands, San Cristobal de las Casas is the gateway to the Lacandon forest where remnants of these proud and isolated people are still found. It is also the gateway to the Montebello Lagoon eco-system.
San Cristobal de las Casas' roots date back to 1528 - a scant seven years after the conquest of Tenochtitlan. Often, the landscape is filled with rain laden clouds which are crossed on the highway. |
