Capital of the State of Hidalgo which was carved out of the State of Mexico to commemorate Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, Mexico's foremost leader in the quest for independence. Situated some fifty miles east of Mexico City, Pachuca's site pre-dates the Spanish Conquest as an important mining center called Patlachiuhcan. At that time, gold and silver ore was found a few feet below the surface. Today's Pachuca is an important business and manufacturing center. DINA's truck manufacturing plant is located in nearby Ciudad Sahagun.
