As a city within Mexico City's Greater Metropolitan area, Ecatepec's primary economic force is driven by over 1,100 Manufacturing Plants of all sizes.
The principal Industrial Parks in the area are Xalostoc, La Viga and Santa Clara. Ecatepec's name derives from the Nahuatl for "windy hill". The Morelos part was added by Municipal Decree to honor Jose Maria Morelos - one of the Founders of Mexico's Independence movement from Spain. The territory around today's Ecatepec started to be settled in 150-200 ACE by fishermen from nearby Teotihuacan. Eventually, the native population was integrated into the Aztec Nation. |
