Founded in the 1570s, Celaya is currently the third largest city in the state of Guanajuato and one of the fastest growing cities in Mexico due to industrial growth.
In the past, Celaya was known as an important agri-business and commercial center. Cajeta - a delicious dessert made from goat's milk - propelled Celaya's fame. Important battles during the formative quest for Independence in the 1810s and in 1915, during Mexico's Revolutionary period between Alvaro Obregon's and Pancho Villa's forces took place in Celaya and surrounding area. |
