Founded a few years after the conquest of Tenochtitlan in 1533 by Nuņo Beltran de Guzman, Culiacan has become the capital of the northwestern Mexico state of Sinaloa. Its principal trade stems from productive fields in the surrounding area resulting from extensive planned irrigation. Inland sports fishing camps are set up in the Adolfo Lopez Mateos and Sanalona Dams located near Culiacan. |
